Flow Scheduling in Optical Flow Switching Networks Under Transient Conditions

چکیده
We study flow scheduling to lightpaths in an optical flow switching network where flow arrivals are modeled as a time dependent Poisson process and their holding times are Pareto distributed. Scheduling decisions are taken at fixed time intervals (larger than 100 ms) in a central node and scheduled flows cannot be interrupted before their completion. The scheduling problem is represented as a discrete time Markov decision process with flow blocking probability objective function over a finite horizon. We derive three lower bounds to the objective function and propose several schedulers, with and without fairness requirements. The schedulers performance are evaluated under both, static and limited dynamic routing, by emulating the algorithms on random networks topologies for 7200 seconds. The main result is that our proposed max-min fair scheduler with limited dynamic routing significantly outperforms all schedulers with static routing. Furthermore, its blocking probability is close to the lower bound for static routing.

Statistical multiplexing in optical flow switching networks
In IP over WDM networks, optical paths (OP’s) form a virtual topology seen from the upper IP layer, and greatly relieve the burden of electronic processing thanks to optical bypasses. However, in contrast to the circuit-switching, connection-oriented and coarser OP’s, the IP is packet-switching, connectionless and finely granular in nature. Special care should be taken in the control plane to b...
متن کاملSelf-organized optimization and synchronization of material flow networks with decentralized control
The efficient and reliable operation of material flows in transportation networks is a subject of broad economic interest. Important applications include the control of signalized intersections in urban road systems and the planning and scheduling of logistic processes. Traditional approaches to operating material flow networks are however known to have severe disadvantages: centralized control...
متن کاملPredicting Deficient Condition Performance of Water Distribution Networks
A water distribution network is subjected to various abnormal conditions such as pipe breaks, pump failures, excessive demands etc. in the design period. Under such conditions, the network may not be able to meet required demands at desired pressures, and becomes deficient. Traditional network analysis assumes nodal demands to be satisfied and available nodal pressures are calculated. However, ...

متن کاملStrictly Nonblocking f -cast d-ary Multi-log Networks under Fanout and Crosstalk Constraints
We derive conditions which are both necessary and sufficient for the d-ary multi-log switching networks to be f cast strictly nonblocking under all combinations of fanout and crosstalk constraints. The fanout constraint tells us which stage(s) of the networks has fanout capability. The crosstalk constraint tells us whether or not two connection routes are allowed to share a link (relevant to el...
